In 2006, on a sleepy afternoon in Kolkata, two teenagers met at Math tuition rueing their lack of aptitude for the subject. Over the years through countless sharing of notes, music playlists, trivia and to finally realizing they actually shared much more than that, perhaps even dreams and aspirations, began quite an enriching journey, with both of them 'growing-up' together! Cut to 2020, there relationship has traipsed all over the world (Manipal, London, Delhi) and despite battling different time zones, multiple years of long distance and now even a global pandemic, Kolkata the City of Joy, was called upon to play witness to a monumental occasion in their lives, their wedding! This was not the Big Fat Marwari-Bengali wedding they always thought they would have, but now a ‘covid-friendly’ small intimate 60 people, albeit with the same amount of joy and hope!
Rishika and Piyush's wedding, was an intimate wedding because of the pandemic, however the functions themselves were quite grand in scale. It was a 2- day affair modelled around an ode to the city of the Kolkata, and took the guests sailing from Kolkata to Rajbari Bawali a destintion on the outskirts of Kolkata, by a private yacht (Riviera) on the Ganges River framed by the iconic Howrah Bridge in the background. The fact that it was tucked away from the city, provided an added protection against Covid, and became a Covid-style Destination wedding with all guests staying on the property and the events ranging from an Engagement and sundowner, Malabari Musical Night, Gaye Holud, Marwari Mehendi and the 'Biye' or wedding.
