I started photographing weddings to understand Indian culture better.
Before 2011 when I shot my first wedding in India, I worked as a wedding photographer in Moscow and couldn’t imagine that I would be capturing Indian weddings. It was like dream😍
In my 13 years in the wedding industry, I photographed weddings of various cultures: Bihari, Sikh, Marwari, Rajput, Malu, Kannada, once even a Tamil Brahmin wedding (which was quite amusing), Jain weddings, Catholic weddings, Punjabi weddings. I love weddings.
Honestly, for me, indian wedding is a blend of culture, joy, excitement, sometimes a mix of languages (often I shoot weddings where one of the partners is a foreigner).
And you know what I realized? A photographer should be invisible, and when the couple flips through the wedding album - let them be amazed that the photographer had captured the most insignificant moments, frozen the time.
Although, can you even call father's look at his daughter during the Vidaai insignificant or the celebration in front of the wedding gates, or even the traditions performed during the Phere?
You don’t get just a wedding album but frozen emotions, memories that your children will carry for generations.
Yes, I am a foreigner. And by inviting me to capture your day, you get 'international' quality, and I am really good at all the intricacies of the Indian wedding ceremonies and even can negotiate with your grandmother 😉
And not to forget to mention that I speak English, Hindi, Russian very well.
