6 Best Ways to Include Your Dad In Your Wedding

Fathers are our pillars of support, especially for a day as big as our wedding. Here are a few special ways in which you can include your dad in your special day (apart from the normal ones).

Our supportive fathers are our strongest pillars - they help us take our first steps wherever life may take us. However, when it comes to a bride or groom's special day, they get relegated to the background. Here is how a bride-to-be can always include her father in all the events for her special day - in both the obvious and unique ways.

1. Logistics and Support - Dad in Control

When it comes to working on logistics, be it putting together a to-do list or a special piece, we always know that dad's there. Whether it’s figuring out how well the location works for your event or checking whether everything is in order, you can trust your father to really plan these things well. Be it family holidays or elaborate party plans, he’s done it all and will be able to guide you well if you ask for help.

And then, there are all the simple cross-checks. It could be something simple and boring like writing out invites, doing a headcount, sending out hampers to guests, and more, you’ll be surprised by how happy your father will be to lend a helping hand. You can spend this time together and even bond over the little things instead of completely getting caught up in the wedding rush.

2. Last-minute activities

It’s normal to panic and even wonder whether you’re going to get everything done on time. Getting your Dad to stay with you and making calls to vendors, double-checking things and handling major details will be a great source of comfort for you. It’ll also be very reassuring for him to see you ask him as you work on a new beginning while still consulting him on matters that count.

3. Father-daughter / Father-son talks

If you are feeling way too stressed thanks to the wedding and can’t seem to calm down, go out for a cup of coffee with your Dad and just vent. He’s seen you grow up and go through all your major first battles and will know how to offer words of comfort. He’ll make you feel better before the ceremony and major functions and tell you exactly what you need to hear. And if there's a chance for a private tipple (if it's okay between you and your father), go for it too.

4. Wedding details - Consultation on call

Or you could go to him for practical reasons when you are simply confused over wedding matters! Whether you’re unsure about how many distant relatives to call and how many parties make sense considering the budget, his opinion will go a long way in helping you choose. If you’re stuck between two great wedding photographers, send him the portfolios and ask him to help you. This will make things a lot better for you and reduce major stress.

5. Father-daughter dances

Though the Sangeet ceremony has been more of a ladies thing, it's now a norm to have the entire family perform together on synced beats, courtesy wedding choreographers. Engage in a number with your father too (and this works both for the brides and the grooms). Having a father-daughter moment on the wedding dance floor or the wedding reception are equally good ideas too.

6. Let him go footloose too!

Let the man, who's giving away his pride and joy, get his moment in the spotlight too. Make him a special mention - be it by playing his favourite tracks on the dance floor or with the Baraat, penning him a thoughtful word on the side of the ceremonies. For him, it will be the world!
