Well, that was quite a roller coaster ending and we did not see that coming. The infamous Game of Thrones finale came as a bittersweet surprise, and we found ourselves losing our wits and pulling our hair out, on more occasions than one. If you thought that anxiety would knock you right out every time you hear the name Game of Thrones or come across a dozen memes of your once favourite show, then think again. There is a bigger monster that will test your patience even more - yes, your wedding planning!!!
If you, like millions of other people on the internet, had a problem with the ending of Game of Thrones then you will find this post relatable. But, why talk about this show and wedding planning in the same breath? What makes them both our most favourite thing in the world but sometimes also nerve-wracking too (well, mostly nerve-wracking if you ask us). The simple reason being, we can't live with em and we cannot live without em.
So, now that your partner has bent the knee and you have decided on your grand wedding, worthy of a King's Landing feast (what used to be), we enlist some helpful tips and some probable situations you will definitely find yourself succumbed to as you pave your way to the big day. But, for what it's worth - no matter how stressful planning and executing the wedding of your dream gets, do not, we repeat, do not burn down the city (like our beloved Danny, apparently a ticking time bomb disguised as the mother of dragons).
Things Game of Thrones Taught Us We Must Never Do When Planning a Wedding
But, if you happen to be anything like Jon Snow, the odds might not be in your favour and you may find yourself murmuring, 'I know nothing about planning a wedding all by myself'. But, don't you worry - we're here to guide you through to make your wedding awesome (something that the finale of the series clearly lacked).
1. Who Is Calling the Caterer? Where Are the Flowers? Is This for Real?
Yeah, well, been there and done that. Stress always gets the best of us and stress is the other name for wedding planning. Remember Tyrion's face all through the final episode? Yeah, we too felt something like that when nothing was on point. The flowers did not match the colour palette and the drapes did not look as we wanted them to - all in all, it was so stressful that we could see gushes and fumes of stress reverberating.
Tip: You need to relax, seriously! The best case scenario would be to come up with a to-do list, with names of the people and their assigned responsibilities. You are the bride-to-be/groom-to-be, you need not spoil your pre-wedding glow over the colour of tulips - let someone else do it for you! Something like the Queen's hand, if you know what we mean!
2. This Is a Catastrophe - When Wedding Details Don't Go According To Plan
If there was one thing that could define a bride-to-be's mood when her hair is not on point or she has the last minute breakout - then it is Jon Snow's facial expressions throughout season 8. I mean, he is legit a MOOD. But, you don't have to worry or frown - even the worst of the pimples will fade away!
Tip: Just put some honey on it, will you? Or better yet just Google it - like a million things we Google on a daily basis. Just google some remedies, follow them through the 'T' and if everything else fails, conceal it away! Use a concealer like a pro - like you are used to after every all-nighter or a long night of partying and voila you're set!
3. You Are Not a One Man/Woman ARMY - You Need Your Dragons (We Mean Friends) Too
If Danny couldn't win the seven kingdoms all by herself, then how will you plan your wedding alone? Do not be over-ambitious, because it is a battle as difficult as the one against the white walkers was.
Tip: Trust the melody of Aaj Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai & ask for help as much as you like. You have stood next to your BFFs breakdowns, endless shopping sprees and rants about life, right? Now, it is time for them to repay the favour. Include them in your planning process and every once and then take a break with your buddy to blow off some seam. There is no one better than a friend to help keep cold feet at bay.
4. Even the Queen Needs Some Love & Lots & Lots of Pampering
Yeah, you are the apple of his eye and the queen of his life. But, it never hurts to be reminded of how special you are over and again! Danny slew the world but still waited for that one kiss from the one she truly loved, right?
Tip: The next time you feel, you are succumbing to the pressure of all the wedding planning and meet and greets before your big day approaches - call you would-be-husband/wife, arrange for a date-night with a mushy setting. And give your spouse-to-be the chance to remind you that, YAS YO ARE MY QUEEN/KING!
5. The Bridezilla Moment - Burn This, Burn That, Burn It All Cuz I'm so Mad at the World
So, thanks to Drogon, there is no such thing as the Throne, anymore! Well, Game of Thrones without an actual throne? So what was the hype about? Now, imagine taking everything upon yourself and shouldering the responsibilities of doing everything - it is only a matter of when you snap and when you do, it would feel something like Drogon must have felt too!
Tip: If things don't go as planned, your hairstylist or makeup artist pushed up the appointment by an hour or the fitting of your bridal lehenga is not on point - breathe & regroup your energy into finding a solution! DO NOT, WE REPEAT, DO NOT BREATHE FIRE!
6. Walk of Fame Down The Aisle, It Ain't No Shame
Yep, I'm the mother of dragons & I'll show you how & boom she has got em wings!!! With countless bridal diet tips, fitness sessions, beauty sesh and some spa sessions to burn the steam - yas queen, you've finally done it - you look like a Queen, ready to take on the world!
Tip: Enjoy, feel each and every moment to the fullest and own this day like you were always meant to. It is your big day and you must shine bright like a diamond. Relish in how all the hard work came to fruition as you walk the aisle for the first time.
7. The Goodbye, Au Revoir, The Pack Survives Moment (Bidaai)
Like all good things, your Bidaai will be the most bitter-sweet moment of this entire experience. But, don't think that this is it of your life with your family - the family will always be family, blood is thicker than water, and no matter where in the world you go to, your parents will always be there!
Tip: The lone wolf dies but the pack survives - your family and you are a pack and nothing will ever break you apart or that sacred bond. Distance only makes the heart grow fonder and now you will find out how!
8. After The Shaadi - Pin Drop, Clothes Off, Home Sweet Home
The moment when you have been on your foot since the beginning, delegating people, giving a piece of your mind to everyone - there will come a time when you just want to strip off of all responsibilities and sleep it off and repeat! Much like Tyrion stripping his post as the 'hand of the Queen'!
Tip: It has been a long few weeks of planning, running errands, meeting all relatives and you begin this new life and let's not forget all the rituals that tied you in this sacred bond of holy matrimony. But, as soon as you are under the cover, strip off all your responsibilities and sleep - recuperate your senses as your new and happy life awaits you starting tomorrow!
What is the point of a raging war if you don't get to sit on the throne or enjoy your wedding as it happens. So, do not spend as much time planning it and rather enjoy every last bit of it till it lasts. Sit side by side, man and wife and rule all of the seven kingdoms together.
Now, that you have a list of all the best things that the seven kingdoms have to offer to you for your Game of Thrones inspired wedding, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with your wedding planner, wedding decorator, wedding caterer, fashion designer and have the wedding the word will stop to see.
