Commenting about the inspiration and their foray into couture, the designers share, “We have worked on a couture collection for the first time. We specialize in textural surface ornamentation, and our hand embroideries are all based on old Indian crafts. So, it was a very natural transition to infuse our hand-done techniques on couture ensembles. The modern Indian bride and the groom were looking for something unusual, which is global yet traditional. We believe our collection with its emphasis on sculpted silhouettes softened with sensual shimmer is apt for the modern bride and groom who are breaking conventions by trying unusual silhouettes for their big day.”
Tarun Tahiliani unravels Artisanal Couture
Designer and Indian bridal couturier, Tarun Tahiliani, unraveled his 2021 collection ‘Artisanal Couture’ at FDCI’s 2nd Digital Edition of India Couture Week. His all-new collection encompasses a set of six discrete capsule collections, each of which showcases his brand’s signature ‘India Modern’ design aesthetic.
The couturier whips out a worthy collection drawing inspiration from his vision of 2021 weddings. While a lot has changed in the global fashion and wedding industry owing to the pandemic, Tahiliani’s latest rendition of bridal wear celebrates the Culture of India and its influence on bridalwear. The designer reaffirms the power of our heritage and shifts the limelight towards hand-craftmanship.
7 capsule collections form 7 different chapters of the Artisanal Couture story - Chikankari, Pichwai, Rangrez, Cocktail Goddess, Pakeezagi, and Bridal. With graceful lehengas, shararas, choli capes, coats and skirts, concept sarees weaved with the finesse of organza brocade, moonga silk brocade, sheer silk, etc, brides and bridesmaids of 2021 have so much to choose from this design story.
Bringing the ‘grand’ to the ‘grandeur’ of a wedding, regardless of an intimate gathering, the designer creates a contemporary collection infused with the rich heritage of India - Indian embroidery techniques, textiles, and magnificence of Indian handcraftsmanship.
Speaking of the essence of the collection, the Tarun Tahiliani team confirms, “The latest couture collection is a celebration of color leading from the Rangrez capsule, where thousands of meters of woven brocade strips are cut out and applied on different forms. The bridal collection is presented in a sublime palette of colors ranging from traditional bridal reds to contemporary TT pastels and beiges that have been the mainstay of many of the brand’s recent collections. The label’s Pichwai collection this season takes inspiration from the ancient Indian lyrical paintings from Rajasthan that depict big monochromatic scenes of the Raasleela and our traditional motifs from peacocks to cows to lotuses. Finally, the collection’s Chikankari capsule is reminiscent of the tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah in Agra, whose latticed carvings and inlay work form the basis of the collection’s Chikankari motifs.”
