Before applying the mehndi, you need to take a few steps in order to get a dark mehndi colour. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and eat well before the ceremony. Book a good mehndi artist and choose your type of mehndi design in advance to get the best result. Brief the artist beforehand so that you don’t get disappointed later on at the ceremony. The mehndi, also known as henna, should be of good quality if you want a dark mehndi colour.

2. During Application

Start by washing your hands and feet with soap and dry them properly. Do not apply any cream on them as it can become a problem while trying to get a dark mehndi colour. It won’t let the skin absorb the mehndi and leave that dark design that you are dreaming of.

However, if you have dry skin, you can make an exception by applying eucalyptus oil. Not only does it have a great fragrance, but it also helps you in getting a dark mehndi colour. Apart from that, make sure you’re wearing a comfortable outfit that lets the mehndi artist do his work without any hassle!

3. Drying Mehndi

Most people follow the natural process to get their mehndi to dry, and this is often the most effective in getting the dark colour. So don’t try other ways to make the drying process quicker. Don’t move your hands up and down to dry it, just leave them as they are. Sitting in the sun is also not a good option as it may not bring out the mehndi colour you desire. The biggest blunder that most brides end up making is blow drying their mehndi to get it over with. Never even think of doing it as the hot air can easily smudge your mehndi design and ruin it!

The best way of drying your mehndi is by investing at least 8 to 12 hours in it. Some brides even leave it overnight! Let time do its work naturally and don’t interfere with it.

4. After the Ceremony

Now that the mehndi has dried, you must have gotten a beautiful and dark mehndi colour that you can flaunt in your wedding pictures. However, did you know that you can make your mehndi even darker? There are various natural ways of darkening your mehndi colour that is legit. Firstly, you can heat up a few cloves in a pan and use its smoke to darken your mehndi. Just place your hands above the smoke and let it do its work. But make sure that you don’t burn your hand. Keep your hands at a distance where you can bear the heat!

The next step is the lemon sugar paste. You might have heard about it. Lemon juice along with sugar is applied on your dry mehndi to deepen the colour. You can dab the paste on your hand by using a cotton ball. But make sure that you don’t go overboard with it as it can lighten the colour.

Another step that is quite common is using Vicks gel on your mehndi. Once the mehndi has been removed properly by scrapping, apply Vicks over your hands and feet as it will give you results you want soon after.

Mehndi is a serious job when it comes to making the bride beautiful. Choosing the right mehndi design and style, wearing the best ensemble and booking the top mehndi artist well in advance are some very important things that need to be taken care of. If you don’t get a dark colour then it can feel like all that hard work has gone to waste. It’s not just artist but the bride as well who needs to do a lot of work to get the end result.
