How To Select The Best Wedding Footwear For Your Big Day
Your wedding footwear has the power to make or break your day, so choose it wisely to ensure you’ll be both comfortable and stylish at your wedding.
All of the stunning wedding attire, latest jewellery, perfect makeup, a spellbinding hairstyle is not enough to make your dream day a special one. Your wedding footwear has the power to make or break your day, so choose it wisely to ensure you’ll be both comfortable and stylish at your wedding.
Brides often forget to take proper care while selecting the perfect wedding footwear. We understand that there are a number of to-do’s on your wedding checklist but unless you select the right wedding footwear, it is most likely that your day will end up with sore feet and you will have a tough time conquering the world the following day post your wedding functions!
Shoes that are uncomfortable, unflattering, or downright painful may land you in trouble and spoil your day and those following ahead of your big day. Here are some simple tips to help the ‘would-be bride’ to select the perfect wedding footwear and make her feet look drop-dead gorgeous whilst also keeping them happy:
1. Comfort is key
Your wedding day will demand long hours of standing (including posing for your wedding photographers or thanking the guests!). Thus, the very first thing to consider while choosing wedding footwear is the comfort factor. No matter how glamorous a pair of heels look on the display window, you need to put yourself in those shoes to know whether they will be comfortable or not.
You can be bright, beautiful and energetic only when you are entirely comfortable and your wedding footwear plays a very crucial role in deciding that. If your shoes are hurting your feet, it will show on your face. Even while picking up the shoes, the slightest discomfort might make you regret your choices later. So whatever you pick you have to be absolutely sure that it is not going to come back to bite you in the heels.
So, make no compromise with the comfort factor even if you need to compromise on the style! So, the key is not to ditch heels all together but go for pumps or wedges and they tend to have more surface area which puts less pressure on your feet and thus no pin the following day or any sort of discomfort.
2. The length of the outfit vs. shoes
We generally choose an outfit and then go shopping for our wedding footwear. This is wise as you can make the perfect choice for shoes after you have your bridal dress ready. The length of your outfit is going to play a major role in choosing the shoes.
Heavy work and embellishments at the bottom of your lehenga will require you to buy less embellished shoes (as they may get entangled while you walk). Opting for heavy work footwear with a heavy work lehenga might not be the smartest choice you make because it might clash horribly in the overall look (worst case scenario) or look too over the top.
Extra long garments will enable you to wear high heels while you will need to go for flats if the outfit length is not too long. So, remember to try your wedding footwear with your bridal outfit once. Look for any sort of mismatch or entangling of your lehenga's embroidery with that of your wedding footwear and things like these.
3. Consider the wedding venue
Your wedding venue is going to be a determining factor in choosing your wedding footwear. If you are having a farmhouse wedding (this means you will have to walk on grass) just say no to pencil heels. Similarly, a beach themed wedding will make you uncomfortable with bulky heels. Keep the venue in mind while choosing your shoes.
Not just the wedding venue, also keep in mind the distances that you will have to cover, whether the stage is at an incline or up the steps and other similar factors. You might not have to walk miles in these shows, but you'll definitely have to walk some of the most significant steps of your life.
Walking with a heavy lehenga and pointy heels on the ground will make your bridal walk down the aisle extremely uncomfortable - so keep the wedding venue in mind before you finalise your wedding footwear.
4. Go for several trials

Do not keep your wedding shoes packed up in the box till the wedding day. New shoes are always uncomfortable in the beginning and you can even suffer from shoe bites. Make sure to wear your shoes for a few hours every day (inside the house) so that they fit with the shape of your feet.
Make it a habit to always try and walk a little in them, especially during your trial runs of the wedding ensemble and so on. Don't think that wearing them, again and again, will wear them out. Their brand newness will not be of any use if you are just not comfortable in them.
5. Be safe with a spare pair
Keeping a spare pair of shoes will be the wisest thing to avoid a mishap. You really don’t need to buy an identical pair; simple gold or silver pair of shoes will be enough for this purpose. If everything goes fine, you can use those neutral colours for any other occasion and if you really need them, they will match perfectly with your wedding outfit as well.
Put your bridesmaids to some duty and have them be ready with an extra pair of shoes which are comfortable. Just in case your feet decide to give up on you at the last minute, you will have something else to change into.
