We’ve seen enough of the fishtail braids and the messy braids; it is time millennial brides something new. This half braided and half-open messy hairstyle is for the brides that are looking for a casual look on their Mehndi or Haldi function. It goes best with the indo-western outfits and adding floral accessories to it will just make it look one of a kind.

How to Get the Look - Unique hairstyles like these require you to first curl your hair and then open the curls and leave them loose. Your stylist can then take half of your hair from the crown and start braiding it into a fishtail. When you complete the braid, make sure that the leftover open hair still looks like messy loose curls.

The Princess Ponytail

After Deepika Padukone donned this hairstyle at Met Gala 2019, the millennial brides are going gaga over it. While it is an unusual choice of hairstyle for wedding function by brides, it is still one that keeps them fuss-free and yet looking like a princess on their big day. Apart from going extremely well with your cocktail gown, unique hairstyles like these also give a slimming definition to your face, making you look prettier. However, hair extension is important to create this look, as only brides that have extremely voluminous long hair can avoid the extension.

How to Get the Look - This simple yet unique hairstyle needs you to divide your hair into and then use a doughnut-shaped hair voluminiser to create the high bump underneath your ponytail. Your stylist can then leave the rest of the hair as well as the hair extension open with natural waves. Adding an embellished hair accessory on the top will leave no stone unturned to make you look like a princess.

Buns are every bride’s go-to hairstyle for the simple reason of it keeping them fuss-free and relaxed. As we all know that not having to touch your hair at your wedding is the biggest boon for any bride. One of the unique hairstyles we came across, was this bun that has been effortlessly done using multiple braids. It is perfect for the Pheras, as the braids in the bun will still show from the light net dupatta on your head.

How to get the look - This one is rather simple as all that your hairstylist needs to do is fix the front of your hair and secure it with pins. Then braid all your hair into multiple thin plaits that can be twisted around to create a unique layered bun. Adding red roses around the bun will make it look more like a bridal hairstyle for the Pheras.

Unique Hairstyles with a Bow at the Back

Just like the half-braided hairstyle we told you about, this one is a more advanced version of the same. Apart from the unique bow at the back, both these hairstyles are more or less the same. While this one is also for the brides that are planning on wearing an Indo-western dress for a more casual function, unique hairstyles like these might end up looking rather informal if paired with the formal Indian outfits.

How to Get the Look - All you need to do to create the bow at the back is pull your hair into a high, looped bun on top, split it in half to create 2 loops and then pull the rest of the ponytail over the centre to create the division and then finally pull each strand under each loop and secure it with bobby pins.

Low Chignon with Braiding Techniques

What caught our attention about this unique low chignon bun is how the hair has been divided into two with this hairstyle, making the top half look wavy and braided and keeping the bun simple and straight. Low chignon buns are every bride’s favourite as it helps add the drama to her look by making it more elaborate. Reception gowns or Phera lehengas are the perfect outfits to pair these, but make sure you do not cover the wavy braids on the top as that is the highlight of unique hairstyles like these.

How to Get the Look - Divide your hair into sections from the crown and then braid them into a fishtail till half of the length of your hair, then straighten the remaining hair and pull in to a classic low chignon bun. Lastly, after the chignon bun has been secured with pins, you can your stylist to loosen the fishtail braids to give it a messy look. Add hair accessories between the bun and the braids to give it a distinguished look.

If you’re wondering why this hairstyle has made it to our list of unique hairstyles, then let us explain. It is not the hairstyle but the choice of accessory to go with it that makes for a unique choice amongst brides. The jewelled hairband look from the ’90s is something brides very rarely consider. Apart from looking refreshing and unique, it is also something that is giving her outfit the extra sparkle. This looks good on brides with medium hair length that love simple but unique hairstyles.

How to Get the Look - While the natural waves can be achieved by loosening curls on your hair, pulling them back adequately with a hairband to suit your face and make it look good for the wedding photos is an art that your hairstylist must possess for you to crack this look perfectly.

Fishtail Braid + Bubble Braid

Let us first explain the concept of bubble braids to you. Bubble braids are easy-to-make plaits that are fluffed-up sections of hair, which you can call as bubbles, divided generously by spaced out hair elastics or rubber bands. These can be worn in pigtails, half-up braids, or even high ponytails. But what is special about this hairstyle is that the bubble braid here has been paired with a fishtail and is perfect for brides who are looking to stay fuss-free while also flaunting one of the most unique hairstyles that we’ve seen so far.

How to Get the Look - All you need to do is tie your hair in a fishtail, leaving some side bangs open to not make it look too clean. Then ask your stylist to fluff your fishtail braids up in a way that it resembles a bubble braid.

Dramatic Coiled Hair Bun

One of the most dramatic and unique hairstyles that we have seen, this one is for brides that consider bridal buns to be a safe bet. This unique bun hairstyle will make you believe that you can go all out with your bridal bun as well to create an elaborate look that goes with your Maang Tikka or Matha Patti. According to us, unique hairstyles like these should preferably be sported by brides that have a longer or slimmer face cut as the coiled rolls of the hair can otherwise make their head look too big in the wedding pictures.

How to Get the Look - This hairstyle isn’t as difficult as it looks, all you have to do is divide your hair into two from the centre and leave the hair around your crown area open and tie the rest into a bun at the back. Then fix your Matha Patti or Maang Tikka in the centre to your bun and take sections of the crown hair and coil them with the help of a banana bumpit into multiple coils around the head. Secure these coils with pins and you’re good to go with a statement bridal bun.

A Bouquet of Roses

Now here’s what you can call as the head of all unique hairstyles that we’ve seen so far. Apart from being one of the most difficult to achieve, this one is also one that looks like the most creative out of all. The focus here is on both the braid as well as the roses, however, the key is to make both of them look seamless and your hair look like a bouquet of flowers. This bouquet of flowers is for brides that love the charm of an over the top hairstyle.

How to Get the Look - This beautiful bouquet hairstyle requires your hair to have loose curls for the roses to look seamless. Then all your hairstylist has to do is pull back all your hair from the front and coil them into small roses. Once she has coiled the curls into roses, she can segregate all the hair into 3-4 sections depending on the volume and make fishtail or bubble braids with it. And then tie all the braids together at the bottom to make it look like a perfect resemblance of an actual bouquet.

The Zig-Zag Fishtail Hairstyle

Ritika Kadam Hairstylist

While most millennial brides feel that open hair hairstyles do not have too much to experiment with, unique hairstyles like these are exceptions that bust their myth. We love everything about this fishtail zigzag and feel that these are for brides that want to stay fuss-free in an open hair hairstyle. Apart from making your face look more defined, this hairstyle also ensures that all your pictures from the back come out well too.

How to Get the Look - This one looks rather simple as all you have to do is ask your hairstylist to curl all your hair, then divide it into sections of few strands from both sides and braid them into a fishtail that eventually merges into one big fishtail. The key is to keep half your hair untouched and achieve this unique hairstyle by only using half of your hair.  Adding floral accessories to this one can enhance the look of your hairstyle.

While we love all these unique hairstyles, we know every bride has her own set of do’s and don’ts when it comes to her look. All they need to do is look for one that will best suit their face cut, their outfit and the jewellery that they are pairing with it.

Also, a good hairstylist can make experimenting with unique hairstyles a much easier job and also save you from the embarrassment of showing up with a bad experiment of hairstyles.

So, think no further and look for a hairstylist who gets your taste and style but more importantly understands your face cut and hair texture and let her choose one of the best unique hairstyles from this list for you.
