Life is a constant cycle of confusing questions and tedious situations; one of the most vicious one being how on earth do you pick a makeup artist for what is arguably the biggest day of your life - that is your wedding day?

Your wedding day is going to be that one day when all of your guests will follow you around like paparazzi! And, looking back on the memories of your big day you shouldn't be looking at your brows not matching one another or your winged eyeliner not looking as fly as you had hoped for it to be or any other beauty blunder that you legit never signed up for! 

With the advent of the hello, wedding season, we thought it would be helpful to narrow down some questions that you 'must not ask' your makeup artist, in time for your big day!

Have your eyes set on a specific makeup artist? Then don't wait long to make the first move! Approach her as soon as you can since most of the MUAs tend to have bookings up to a year in advance. 

Don't Let Instagram Be Your Only Ray of Hope

While we all get a kick by stalking brides and makeup artists on Instagram, but let that not be a case when looking for an MUA for your own! Thanks to the advent of social media, airbrushing and photoshopping are skills all of us are way too familiar with! So, believe in the magic of an ethereal transformation only once you have witnessed it in person!

The fact that we never eat out unless the rating and reviews are satisfactory, don't plan on winging it with your makeup artist either! Since you are trusting them with the most important day of your life - read reviews by real brides and then narrow down on a few names you think fit what you are looking for! 

Test Run it, Baby!

Yep just how we don't purchase a car without a test run, do not book an MUA without a trial sesh! All makeup artists have a different flair and way of doing things and not getting a trial makeup session before your wedding day is a risk you cannot afford to take! Think about a threshold of unsatisfactory selfies and boomerangs? *Yikes*

Your dream makeover is an expensive dream and before you shell off your pockets - check if all that hassle is worth it! Imagine paying a hefty amount for a makeover and seeing drug store cosmetics sitting beautifully on the shelf? It is a big no-no! Ask your MUA in advance as to which products she will be using and if you are comfortable with the package and the cosmetics then it is a win-win!

Do Not! We Repeat, Do Not Tell Your MUA That You Know Best!

We understand that you are the bride-to-be and that your opinion matters! But, if your MUA says that something is not right for you, chances are she knows what she is talking about! Have a little faith and believe that she will give you a makeover that you truly deserve! 

Even Makeover Miracles Take Time

Whilst, your MUA knows it all but even she will need some time to spin her fairy dust magic on you! Be punctual and do not be late because your fitting ran a little later than expected! Give your MUA the desired amount of time she needs to pull off this miracle!

Also, just because your makeup will take longer than necessary, does not mean you will keep your groom waiting at the wedding mandap! Therefore, discuss with your MUA in advance and get a clear picture on the timeline of how much time she will need to whiff off that fairy dust on you! 

Having an Unrealistic High Horse is Not an Option

While to have a moralistic high horse is always a state of mind we all must strive to have, but not when it comes to makeovers and do-overs! Be comfortable in your own skin and do not try to achieve a look that your MUA says is not for you! You hired this artist for a reason, so believe in them!

*Free bies* are a big no-no! Just because your BFF, your Mummy's friend's daughter is with you does not mean you can ask your MUA to throw in some freebies and favours! Ask your makeup artist in advance if she will cater to the needs of your family members or not in advance! Fixing someone's winged eyeliner or putting a shade of lip colour is a big no-no!

You Are a Millenial Bride - Own It Like A Boss

You grew up into an independent and fierce woman, you are the very definition of an 'IT' girl! Wear your sass with pride and don't give in to the wishes of your mommy dearest and her wishes of you looking like a 'Satya Savitry Bahu-to-be'

She is Your MUA & Not Your Bff - Let's Be Less Chatty

While it is okay to be friendly with your makeup artist, but when she is trying to shape your lips like Rihanna's and you keep chatting away - her job will not just become difficult but hell ya impossible! 

BTS Okay - but Not Too Much, Please

Yeah, we all get excited when we see brides sipping cosmos and margaritas in the *behind the scene* shots when getting their bridal makeover on-point! But, put yourself in the shoes of your MUA - when every time she wants to contour your face and you sip away your drink!

Well, pretty damn annoying and a tad bit difficult for her! So, don't do it as she is on a mission and one should never mess with a woman who is on a mission! 

You Are You & Not Deepika or Peecee or Anushka

Fandom is real and we happen to have one of our own too! But, it is your big day! So, rather than trying to fill in the shoes of an actress you saw tie the in the recent past, create a fashion statement of your own and give them a #weddinggoal moment for once! So, say no-no to #IwanttolooklikeDeepika and look more like yourself on your big day! 

Hold them Selfies For Later!!!

Nobody is saying no to your #BTSmoments #weddingprepsinaction selfies but now is not the time for them! You have your wedding to get to and you cannot afford to have any more delays! Besides, a grumpy groom waiting at the altar for you to show up is just sad! So, keep those selfies at a bare minimum and let your MUA finish the job quickly! 

Go With the Flow - and Believe That Your Trial Look Was the One for You

Believe in the reason why you liked your trial look and chose this makeup artist! Keep the experimentation to a bare minimum and voila you are good to go! 

Keep in mind these pointers before you meet your MUA and follow them to the 'T' if you do not want an *oops* moment to become living proof of your wedding day!
